Slam Poetry: Ode to Socks

Here's a random / funny slam poem I made and preformed for my writers craft class:

Socks. People wear them!

For too many times, you are taken for granted, my dear sock. Oh! How thou makuth my feet comfy, luxurious and warm, yet I simple throw you into the laundry room at the end of the day, not a single word said. Your fluffiness is beyond measure as you care for me, and love me without issue. Even as I throw in the dreaded dryer tissue.

You cover my feet as you cover my heart with your soft, innocent skin, and today, I thank you for thou friendship.

For all the times I have abused thee, you have never abandoned. Just like a pirate and his loyal bird, or a knight and his trusty steed, you have always followed me on adventures throughout my life. Through the hot, cold, wet and dry, whatever, you have always stayed, and filled your home on my feet.
You are low, yet so high as I walk forward in life, with your assistance. While the going can go rough, and the shoes may stink, I wish to let you know, my heart stinks even more, of realizing how much I took thee for granted. For the many wash cycles of life, day after day, the fluffiness of life may depart, yet you continue through hell to hug me. I put all of my weight of my life on you, but you always get through even when I do not. A you fill the empty spaces between my shoe and my foot, my empty parts of my heart are filled.
And your brothers, and sisters, throughout the world. Different sizes, colours, styles and shapes. Let them know this message of gratitude.

Thank you, my dear sock, thank you. And I love you.

Naked Yoga?!

I just found the idea interesting. Not because people are naked, but just that it really does give away that last feeling of "ego" so then one can truly learn to relax and focus more. I love how people after naked yoga accept their bodies more often than regular people because they must shed their last hints of material wealth and just take a moment to be nothing else, but human. That's a little bit of philosophy for today. Any thoughts?!

Love loops (triangles)

You know those times when You REALLY like one person, but that person you like REALLY likes this other person, but that other person doesn't like them, but the one person still likes them? Yeah. It sucks.

Sometimes you wish that it was a perfect world and everything worked out. That every time someone falls in love, that their opposite understands, and shares the feeling; that we are all magnets attracting the other halt.

One could avoid the pain, and the sadness when you find out the person you like doesn't feel the same way about you, but asks you for help getting this other person to fall in love with them, but that other person has the yearning to be with another person. This loop just goes on and on. Sometimes, you find a hole in the cycle, sometimes, things work out and its just like a wonderful, loving scene from a book. But I have not yet experienced that for myself.

My very own workout plan

I am fortunate enough to have a friend that is going into nursing, so I had her help me develop a workout plan for me! It is just a reminder to myself how lucky I really am to have amazing and talented friends. I am very excited to start it, and we are both possibly going to be working in the same gym so she can show me the ropes.

First time as the PIC in a Cessna 172

Flying away in my first conversion flight!

It felt nice getting current on another aircraft. While feeling a little more slower and sluggish than a Diamond Katana, the Cessna 172 is by far a great aircraft for learning on. This also marked the first time I flew around my home town, so now I can take family and friends flying more easier.

The Many Wonderful Perks of Being Single

If you want to date me, please refrain from reading this blog ;^)
Hmm, Single while everyone else has a partner? Don't sweat it! (Pic by me)

Yes, I know, it's shocking. Perks of being single? What? Why? Well, for a long time, I've been moaning and groaning on both the past and the present about relationships and how they look so awesome, and I've wanted to experience one and all that. I finally took a step back and took a look at my situation. One day (hopefully) I will find that first true love person, and everything will sort its self out. Until then, guess what? i'm single. So why be sad about the cards your dealt? Sometimes, you just have to suck it up and 'deal' with it (Card pun, tee hee) So I looked at all the perks of being single, and it made life a little easier for me.

  1. You can hang out with whoever you want: Since I don't have a girlfriend, I can hangout with any girl or guy I want without being questioned about 'loyalty.' I'm honestly an honest person, but I can live without all that drama of being 'taken.'
  2. You still have Money: They say having another half is healthy for your soul, but disastrous for your pocket book. After every holiday, birthday etc... I've had friend groaning because they are spending so much money taking their boyfriend or girlfriend out. Luckily  I don't have to worry about it, and can save money for university, flying and single, anti-social things.
  3. Dreams of 'that' person: Since I'm single, I don't know what my future will be like! Will i meet someone in a coffee shop? In an airport? On the moon? Who knows! I can have hope of meeting that 'right' person to be with.
  4. Me time: While it can sometimes feel like a curse, having a lot of 'me' time feels great. You can sit, read, write, run and many other things whenever your life dictates, and you are free to do so instead of having to look after another person.
  5. Maturity: While dating seems to be apart of growing up, luckily  I've missed most of the drama and heartbreak that comes with 'young love.' Even if I have NEVER been in a relationship, I am always the friend who is counselling others about their relationships. I feel as if I have learned a LOT from being on the outside, and feel more mature about it.
  6. Closer to friends: Without that other force in your life tearing you away, you can spend more times with friends! While it may feel like your stuck in the friend zones of all the girls you know, it still feels nice to be able to get close to everyone when being single.
  7. Personal development: This should be your top priority regardless of your relationship status, but being single means that you really only have one person to worry about: YOU!
  8. Live your life: You have no tie downs! Let your wings soar!

Justin Treadeau - Liberal Leader

Me and Justin after a very interesting conversation in Barrie, 2012.
I am truly happy that Justin Trudeau has achieved the role of being the new Liberal party's leader. I remember when he first started his campaign in the later stages of 2012. He visited many communities around Canada, and I was fortunate that he visited mine. just a three minute drive from my home, Justin stopped in at a local restaurant to give his people a speech, as well as promoting his campaign. I never felt so empowered by an individual before. One can watch speeches on television and in films, but when you have a Trudeau in the room, you emotional state changes with a surge of excitement and dedication to change. Possibly the most memorable part of his speech was when he talked about being a Canadian. Something that I really loved he mentioned was Vimy Ridge, the WWI battle when Canada first fought as one as all four Canadian divisions held their ground and took the ridge. Justin explained that this is when he believed, Canada became united as a country. This, I absolutely agreed with.

I shook his hand and looked into his eyes, and for that brief few moments, when we hugged, I felt that true connection. I am proud to be a Canadian, and as a young man, I support him with his new leadership role, and hope when elections roll around, that I shook the hand of the future prime minister of Canada.

Better posting schedule incoming + Other things

Hey! I just want to apologize that I am not necessarily consistent in posting. (This apology is for myself, but most importantly you, the reader.) I just wanted to let you know that I will have more discipline in posting here more regularly, as well as I am going to actually start using my website henrybailliebrown.com, and my youtube channel more effectively and more often. That is all!

Dear mini-me (Contest entry for StudentAwards.com)

For a scholarship last month, I entered a contest for a scholarship. The rules were simple: Write to your younger self about if you could do it all again, what would you change? Here is my entry:

If I could do it over again (through the magical Student Awards Time Machine), I would tell my younger self that it is OK to fail.

Life is meant to be enjoyed, so have fun. Don’t be living a life of fear in feeling that if you try something and you don’t succeed, you are a failure. This is not true. Life is about making mistakes and learning from them. If you don't succeed the first time, its OK! Try again, and again until you get it, alright?

You failed to get into the Air Cadet Glider camp TWICE, but the third time, you didn't get in again, but you got a special scholarship to York Soaring because you are such an amazing person! This also goes for asking "you-know-who" out to prom. Now being in a victory lap, it my greatest regret not asking her out. Just be yourself and ASK! It's OK if you fail, at least you tried and gave it your best shot! At least you KNOW.

You can only live your life once, alright, buddy. I want you to enjoy it to the max, so its OK to take risks with a possible outcome of failure. Imagine if Neil Armstrong never went to the moon because he was afraid of the mission failing! (which was a major possibility)

Never give up on your dreams, Henry. Never say no to them, just live your life.

With love from your future self,

Henry

Why I Am So Nice

Sometimes, I look at myself in the mirror and wonder: Why am I so nice to people? It is a simple question that I cannot find a simple answer to. I've been thinking (probably too much) lately on the answer to why. Here are a few of my many thoughts:

As a friend, I've always helped those closest to me. The assistance may take the form of 'counselling' to helping get ready for a job interview, to teaching a topic to someone, to helping them with relationships, confidence and even goal setting. While I might not be repaid, I still give it my 110% when helping. I think I do it for a few reasons.

1. That what friends do! I care, and love my friends. I WANT to see them succeed in life, and will try my darnest to give them the tools to do so. While the pen is in their hands, I can still give them a pretty darn good pen to write with.

2. Personal feelings: I guess besides just feeling like a good Samaritan  I guess I also have that 'feeling' that I should do it.

3. What am I doing? Sometimes  I forget about myself and can throw myself under a bus for others (hopefully not literally!) But why? Why help someone that might not repay, or even WANT to stay in my life? I guess its just I love people... The worst feeling is feeling alone, and I guess I don't want people to leave me. Probably one of my biggest traits about me is integrity. I want the truth, and honesty to win in all situations. I want people to stay in my life, because they are beautiful, smart and caring people too.

4. Its my way of saying I love it that you are in my life: Just like many other humans, I want to be able to show how much people mean to me. While everyone has their own way of showing this, I feel as if my 'good deeds' are my way of showing these feelings.

I guess this is the reason why sometimes I can appear 'too nice' or become 'instantly friend zoned ' While it really sucks a lot of the time, I shouldn't change who I am for another person, but I will admit, sometimes it is hard.

Drama in life - Go away

I have escaped you for the longest time, yet you finally caught me,
Drama of life, please set me free,
I don't like you, its simple as that,
Just leave me alone you crazy cat!

I want to live my teen years with out the crap that nears,
Drama in high school, work and life wtf its just out there I hears,
I don't want to lose friends or others in my life,
So hitch a ride on a bus and I'll also give you a knife.

Drama, Drama go away,
Come again, no wait, just stay away, not some other day,
I want to live my life, with honesty, justice and fun,
Not lies and gossip; just fun in the sun.

DRAMA IN LIFE... GO AWAY! I want to live my life!

Writers Block

Auug, the 'wonderful' thing. Doesn't matter if it takes the form of no motivation, distractions, procrastination, or even just a blank mind, writers block seriously drives me mad.

Everyone seems to have their own way of tackling it. Some run, some play games, some hangout with friends, and some do many other things, but I have no clue how to get rid of it. Personally, I just wait for it to go away. One of the things I do is just start writing. You may not know what you are writing about, but JUST START. Once you've started, your brain seems to wake up, and ideas finally come to your head. Well, for me anyways. Luckily  my mother is a writer and showed me this trick. It works (some of the time) but a lot of the time, I am stuck waiting at my computer or notepad; yearning to write, yet lack the words. Sometimes, I also go out for a run just to get the mind pumping and clear. Anyone have any other ideas in getting rid of writers block?

Super Arrow: The Dream Lives

The beauty from ww.superarrow.ca/

Personalty, I believe that the Super Arrow, even if it may be just a dream of many Canadians including myself, it is the best choice for the future of Canadian aviation as well as Canadian defense. Just like when the Arrow was first developed in the 50's, the Super Arrow would be a much better choice than the F-35. Much cheaper, better specifications and a Canadian aircraft that would be built by Canadians, even the idea can make one drool.

While it might be true it is just a dream now, this is how all great things start.

Goodbye Lucas Arts...

I still cannot believe the news. Ever since I was a child, Lucas Arts has been such an influential company in my life. From creating the Star wars franchise with a bundle of classic games and Lego, etc... To Indiana Jones to even amazing advancements in media technology, Lucas Arts being shut down after being recently acquired by Disney is truly a heart stopper to people around the world.

The first real time I experienced Lucas Arts was my N64 with Star Wars: Rouge Squadron. The games continued after that, and it gave me a real insight into the world of Sci-fy and its many worlds and places where it's creators can take you. I really do find it sad that this remarkable group of people and ideas is being shut down by Disney. Angry Lucas Arts fans all around the world cry for this developers sad departure.

What are your fondest memories of LucasArts? Share your thoughts bellow!

Remember your friends...

Remember your friends, every night and day,
They can get you out of a pickle, well, that's what they say,
Through the good and the bad, the ugly and the fun,
Remember who your friends are, and they will remember you, as much as the sun.

Share the goals and dreams, the loves and fame,
But never forget the friend who gets you there in this game,
Friends help solve problems and are honest with you,
They want you to succeed, and you should hope for them too.

When your high in the sky, and living your life,
Never turn your back on a friend, or sharpen the knife,
Jealousy, greed, hate are easy to fall to,
Don't do it, don't look at it, please, I plead to you.

Cherish and love your friends every single day,
It's true that some friends go, but still, many stay,
Never throw them in the trash, I warn you,
Friends are a special part of life, maybe even a gift too.

Running

Running is personally one of my favorite hobbies/sports (yes, I believe it is a sport, especially cross country running) It truly is a magical feeling when you introduce running into your daily routine, and it incredibly rewarding when you reach personal milestones in distance, times and other self-created goals.

It really is one of the best metaphors for "practice makes perfect." Starting off with one kilometre when I was twelve, I can now run above twenty kilometres in a fairly decent time at an age of seventeen. It really is amazing what a little bit of hard work can do.

Running can be a true joy in life, and can help you get stress off of your chest, while giving you some "me time" and a rush of endorphins to give you that "feel happy" feeling. Running helps with physical health, as well as mental and spiritual health. Especially when you reach one of your goals.

While also being an amazing way to meet new people, it really is a fantastic way to vent, and an easy way to have some fun too. I love to run.

Iceland: Canada's turn to be the sheild

Picture and article here

As a Canadian, I am truly proud of our brave men and woman in our Canadian Armed Forces. This is just another contribution to NATO, yet the pictures still give an amazing emotion of what it is to be a Canadian.Iceland does not have their own military, so it relies on the various NATO nations to take shifts to protect its borders. Now it is Canada's turn. This is just a subtle reminder how important Canada really is to NATO, as well as the world. From Afghanistan, to Iceland to even here at home, the men and woman in CADPAT serve to make a better world. Here is a "Thank you" from a fellow Canadian!

Kid millionairs! WHAT!?

Good article on the National Post

I just think that the entire idea is amazing. Teens being able to become millionaires has defiantly been an interesting topic as of recently (see national Post link above) and yet one may ask how? It is simple: technology. As new and younger generations grow, they have the absolute knowledge of the technology that they grow up with. They know nothing else. Honestly, I would personally not know what the world would be like without computers, or even the Internet, but the opposite could be said about my parents.

Ideas such as tolerance, human rights and other positive ideas are also creating a much more better world for chids to share ideas. The societal idea of success can also drive younger generations to reach their goals and create a better world as well. This can be seen through Marc and Craig Kielburger (founders of Free the Children) who, when they were still kids, created one of the most influential children's charities in the world today.

I think it is wonderful how children are having more influence on the world, as well as them selfs, yet I have a feeling I will be saying the opposite when I am thirty years old and my boss is seventeen.
